One of the things I love best about Homeopathy is how convenient it can be. All you need is a handful of remedies to help you and your family. You don't need to be an expert in anatomy, just an expert in your family. All you need to do is observe the symptoms and match them with the remedy that is most similar.

When out and about there are 5 remedies that I always have with me to treat small ailments or minor accidents.

Arnica
Available in both cream & pillule form this remedy is a must have if you have small children (or big ones!). Use after any bump, bang or injury to help with bruising and also to deal with shock. Use particularly when the person is insisting that they are fine when clearly not.
Note – never use Arnica cream on broken skin. If you have a bruise beneath a cut, use Calendula cream topically to heal the skin & prevent infection and take Arnica pillules to deal with the bruising.

Aconite
Aconite is number one for shock or fright, handy to have on a day out at the theme park if you are nervous of rollercoasters!
This remedy can also work to stop a cold in it's tracks. Take at the first sign of coming down with something to eliminate/reduce the symptoms. This is particularly useful if you become unwell after being caught in a cold, sharp wind.

Chamomilla
Many of us have used this remedy without realising. This is the main ingredient in teething powders given to babies to soothe the pain of cutting new teeth.
As well as being a must-have for any parent with a teething baby it can also be useful in calming temper tantrums. The little one will be cranky, demanding something, then pushing it away (terrible twos anyone??).

Calendula
I carry this in both cream and pillule forms to treat minor cuts and scrapes. Make sure the wound is clean and free of any dirt before using this as it can work very quickly to heal the skin.

Hypericum
This remedy is best used for injuries to nerves and nerve rich areas, such as stubbing your toe (or a fall from the monkey bars) resulting in shooting pains.

You can easily build up your knowledge and confidence with using homeopathic remedies by starting to treat minor injuries. Once you see how quickly and effectively they work, you'll never look back!
