It only seems like a blink since the schools were winding down for the summer break. And now here we are, in the midst of 'Back to School' preparations already; trying to get back in to an early morning routine, planning times for homework and after-school activities. Some of us are preparing newbies and some of us are seasoned back-to-schoolers. Whatever your status this September, we are all adjusting to the new school year.
Homeopathy can act as a safe, gently & effective support for children at this time. Here I'll highlight some remedies that you can use at home with your children.
Children requiring this remedy tend not to cope well with change and can be highly emotional. Younger children may display this through tears and clingy-ness while older children may become quiet and moody.
This is an excellent remedy for anticipatory anxiety. The child will sieze up with fear and may tremble and stutter. Where a child is feeling this anxiety intensely you may need to use this from a few days beforehand or whenever they begin to display symptoms.
This remedy is one to call on when a child is reluctant to go to school. There may be headaches or tummy aches. They may deny that there is anything wrong however the illness 'conveniently' prevents them going to school.
This remedy is also for intense anxiety however it will be accompanied by loose stools and flatulence.
Lycopodium is wonderful for restoring confidence wherethe child is afraid that he/she will be seen as foolish by their peers or that they will fail in front of others. They may compensate by appearing overly confident.
The child will be restless and extremely fearful. They will have a frightened expression on their face and may suffer panic attacks.
It's important to remember to reassure your child that is is ok and natural to feel apprehensive and that once they become used to the new setting they will feel better, fast.
Don't forget that parents can use homeopathy also if they are feeling worried or nervous for their child/children starting the new school year.
Don't forget the old adage; School days are the best days of your life!
